Cricket Icons Return to Action in Masters Champions League

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Some of cricket's greatest former international players are due to return to competitive action in a new and unique T20 tournament, which will be held annually across three stadiums in the United Arab Emirates.

The Masters Champions League, MCL, will feature a franchise format. However, unlike the IPL or Big Bash, teams will not be based on geographic location, and instead will simply include the best possible players a franchise owner can put together from the qualifying player base.

The tournament will be made up of six teams in its first year, with a total of 90 players taking part - 15 members per squad. The players must all be retired from international cricket.

The MCL has been approved for an initial 10 year period by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), while the organiser and rights owner of the tournament, GM Sports, is also closely following the established guidelines set out by the game's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The inaugural MCL matches are due to take place over two weeks in early February, 2016. They will be played in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The tournament was launched at a ceremony on Wednesday held in Dubai. It was attended by former greats including West Indian cricketing legend Brian Lara, Australian icon Adam Gilchrist, and retired Pakistani fast bowling great Wasim Akram. South Africa's Jacques Kallis announced his involvement via a pre-recorded video message. Former England captain Graham Gooch and past Australian captain Allan Border, both members of the MCL governing council, were also present.  

Speaking at the ceremony, Zafar Shah, MCL Chairman, said: "As with many other popular sports, there is a real desire amongst fans and cricketers, to see some of the game's retired icons back in serious competition. The MCL will be a unique and competitive annual T20 tournament offering exactly that. It will allow fans to consistently watch quality and entertaining cricket involving some of the legends of the game."

David East, CEO of the Emirates Cricket Board, was also present at the ceremony and commented: "The MCL is a fantastic idea, now being brought to life right here in the UAE, which is the perfect home for the tournament. 2015 "Lanzhou Bank Cup" Lanzhou International Marathon Set to Begin on June 13

LANZHOU, China, June 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The high-profile 2015 Lanzhou International Marathon is set to begin at 7:30 am on June 13 in Lanzhou, a city in Central China that lies along the banks of the Yellow River. This is the fifth consecutive marathon held in Lanzhou following the one in 2011.

This year's marathon features three events: the full marathon, the half marathon and the 5-km road race. The number of runners that have registered totals 40,029, of which 6,011 plan to run the full marathon, 8,018 the half marathon and 26,000 the 5-km race.

The marathon organizers have invited 59 professional runners from eight countries including China, among which are athletes with some of the world's best track records. The best male competitor in this year's marathon is Eliwood Kiptanui from Kenya, whose previous best performance clocked him in at two hours, five minutes and 39 seconds while the best female competitor is Georgia Rono, also from Kenya, whose previous personal best stands at two hours, 21 minutes and 39 seconds. Both of the records are better than those of the best runners invited to the last marathon.

Several events are happening concurrently with this year's marathon including the "Belt and Road" Joint Exhibition of Marathon Host Cities, the Joint Photography Exhibition for the Fifth Anniversary of the Marathon, the 10,000-people Green Running Movement and the Sports Cultural Festival. The 10,000-people Green Running Movement event will commence right after all the runners have set off, with the participants picking up trash along the way in order to keep the track green while jogging the five kilometers. In addition, the organizing committee has joined hands with China Green Foundation's Million Forest Project to collect the seeds for 5,000 sea buckthorn trees through charitable donations and crowdfunding. The standard developed by TUV Rheinland is tailored specifically to the needs of sport. The goal is to increase the service quality of sports clubs, thereby making a significant contribution toward ensuring a positive experience for spectators as well as financial success. The new TUV Rheinland "Certified Service Quality -- Sport" standard provides national and international sports clubs with a solid foundation for establishing high-quality services at their events and improving them in the long term. Ticket sales and admission, as well as spectator areas in the stands and the VIP area, play just as important a role in service quality as sanitary facilities and parking. The certification also encompasses the review of safety aspects, such as the club's emergency management provisions.

"Particularly in the field of professional sport, high service quality is essential. Clubs can exert a positive influence on the game experience and the behavior of their fans while benefiting from a boost to their reputation at the same time," explains Michael Weppler, Executive Vice President of Systems at TUV Rheinland.

FC Bayern Munich is the first soccer club to have been successfully inspected and certified to this standard by TUV Rheinland. To achieve this, the company underwent an extensive inspection process incorporating both secret inspections on game days and a comprehensive audit with all those responsible. All service areas of the sports club fell under the keen eye of the TUV Rheinland auditors, including the infrastructure inside and outside the Allianz Arena in Munich, the admission systems, the stands, the facilities and services in the VIP lounges and the full extent of the catering and sanitary facilities.

For a positive all-round experience for spectators, it is essential for the service quality to be up to scratch at all points of contact between visitors and the sports club. The standard ensures that quality targets and customer expectations are systematically met and surpassed. For this purpose, the TUV Rheinland auditors conducted various processes to inspect the services of FC Bayern Munich.

This also included a spectator survey of several thousand visitors to the stadium, which provided valuable input with regard to the quality on offer at the various points of service. How was the ticket sales process? What form did admission to the Arena take and what was the standard of the catering on offer, both in the stands and in boxes and the VIP area? These were just a few of the questions included in the survey.

This was followed by the two-part inspection process. As part of a "mystery check," a TUV Rheinland expert visited the Allianz Arena in the guise of a normal spectator and assessed the services from a visitor's perspective. The expert followed and inspected the service routes, taking into account such aspects as ticket sales, the traffic situation at the Arena, hygiene in the bathrooms, the quality of the food, security checks and the arrangements for departure after the game.

The final audit process was ultimately concerned with organizational matters and the processes needed to provide the best possible service. In this respect, the auditors checked the extent to which the sports club had defined service standards and how these were communicated and safeguarded. Responsibilities for certain processes and qualification and further training of employees also played a key role. Specific examples include the service philosophy, qualification of employees, complaints management, customer focus, a personal security concept for guests of state and regulations regarding compliance.

At the end of an inspection process that took several days, FC Bayern Munich successfully completed the entire certification process and received the "Certified Service Quality -- Professional Clubs" certificate from TUV Rheinland.

To ensure that services remain at an exceptional level, the experts from TUV Rheinland will perform regular mystery checks and inspections. This demonstrates that the standard is designed not merely to maintain the status quo, but to continue to increase quality with a view to giving visitors a positive overall experience on a permanent basis.

500.com Welcomes Tshinghua Unigroup as Strategic Investor

("Tsinghua Unigroup"), a subsidiary of Tsinghua Unigroup Co., Ltd, for the issuance and sale of newly issued ordinary shares of the Company.

Pursuant to the purchase agreement, Tsinghua Unigroup International Co., Ltd. will purchase 63,500,500 newly issued Class A ordinary shares of the Company for a total purchase price of approximately US$123.8 million in cash. The per share purchase price of US$1.95 (corresponding to US$19.5 per American Depository Receipts) represents a 1.4% discount of the average closing trading price of the Company's ordinary shares for the 30 trading days ended June 8, 2015, or a 17.9% discount of the closing trading price of the Company's ordinary shares on June 8, 2015, the day prior to the date of the purchase agreement.

Unigroup International has agreed to subject all the shares it or its affiliate will acquire in the transaction to a contractual lock-up restriction for six month after the closing. The closing is expected to take place on or before June 30, 2015, upon satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

Upon closing, Tsinghua Unigroup will hold 15.2% of the Company's issued and outstanding ordinary shares. LANZHOU, China, June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2015 "Lanzhou Bank Cup" Lanzhou International Marathon began at 7:30 am on June 13. The marathon, now in its fifth year, attracted 40,029 professional and amateur marathon runners with Ethiopia's Ajara Ward Georgios claiming the men's title in two hours, 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Abdellah Taghrafet from Morocco came second in two hours, 11 minutes and 39 seconds with Kenya's Lawrence Cherono third in two hours, 12 minutes and 33 seconds. All three broke all previous records for this marathon.

NUSSLI's expertise and use of state-of-the-art technology to build temporary grandstands has resulted in numerous improvements to increase the circuit's capacity and the number of seats available without compromising pre-purchased tickets.

The main changes are:

  • Connecting grandstand 1 and 2 to increase the capacity of the Main Grandstand.
  • A new general admission grandstand located at the end of the main straight.
  • The grandstand which was on the infield of Moises Solana complex, has been relocated to the short straight to streamline capacity.
  • Expansion of areas to include new seats at Foro Sol, on both the South and North zones.
  • A new single continuous grandstand in the stadium section combining grandstands 10 and 11.
  • The improvement in space and sight-lines of the stands
  • Increasing the capacity in different areas of the racetrack without affecting previously purchased tickets.
